captured and paroled with the regiment at the battle of
Trenton, TN on 12/20/1862 and had orders to report to Benton
Barracks, MO then to Camp Chase in Columbus, OH but went AWOL
instead. The records on his
captures are difficult to track. He
is said to have been one of the men AWOL from Grand Junction,
TN who were captured at Ripley, TN in June 1863 and taken to
prison in Richmond, VA but exchanged. His
muster roll also lists another capture at Jackson, MS on
8/17/63 which resulted in imprisonment in Richmond, VA and yet
another at Bolivar, TN on 8/27/63. Clearly
this is not possible. Someone
else’s records must be included. His
last parole was said to be at Richmond, VA on 3/20/64. In 1891 he
applied for and received an invalid pension while living in
Colorado. Hicks is buried in the

in 1867. MR #851
