Searching for information on the family of John Enoch Carter, who
married Mariah Vittato. They lived in or near Jackson in Madison
County during the 1800's. The family is known to have had several
sons, though I only know the born name of one son -- James Vittato
Carter, b. abt. 1837-1838.
At some point in time it looks as if this family had a dispute, which
caused one son to run off and conceal his identify by changing his
surname to Orr in Arkansas. James and one other brother supposedly
ran after their brother, but did not find him, due to the name
change. Apparently they searched as far west as Colorado, where one
brother may have settled. James intended to return to Tennessee, but
stopped on the way home to visit cousins (Polk and Duvall Carter) in
Oklahoma, where James Carter decided to settle.
Any information about these people and their adventures will be
greatly appreciated. I have full details on the family lines of the
Tennessee Carter who changed his name to Orr in Arkansas.
