According to the late Mary Hardin McCown, a Tipton descendant, Col. Tipton was born in Maryland in 1732 and died in Aug. 1813. He was in the Revoluntionary War from Sheanandoah County, Virginia, and came to Tennessee with his family and second wife, Martha Denton Moore, a widow whom he married July 22, 1777.
