Keen-Markland Cemetery
2015

LOCATION On the Markland farm at 301 Spice Hollow Road, Johnson City. The area is covered in vinca and has a stand of trees that appear to be less than 50 years old. Aside from the vinca, family tradition supported the location, at least generally. No specific graves/depressions were found during a field search. The area has many loose rocks, however, no planted markers were found.

GPS LOCATION: Approximate: +36° 15.645, -82° 23.070

DEEDSSeveral deeds were reviewed and none mentioned a burial ground. The John Wesley Keen family lived on part of that land but sold their 30 acre parcel in 1905 – Deed Book 88, Page 189.

BURIALS It is unknown whom may be buried here. Family tradition suggests that perhaps 2 or 3 young children of the Keen family, who died of illness, may be buried here. There were no planted rocks or other type of markers found. Death certificates were not issued by the state of Tennessee during the timeframe that the Keens owned the land.
