Mrs. J. R. Akers Dies Of Illness; Rites Set Sunday

Mrs. Lucy Ann Prudence Akers, 81, widow of J. R. Akers, prominent Centertown citizen for a number of years, died at the Akers home in Centertown Tuesday evening at 9:30 o’clock, following an illness of several years.  Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, at the Bates Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Rev. J.E.  Powers of Manchester will officiate and burial will be in the Centertown cemetery.  Mrs. Akers was a native and lifelong resident of Warren county, born December 9, 1870. She was a daughter of James Silas Lance and Maria Elizabeth Bates Lance and she had spent most of her life in the Centertown community. Her husband was for a number of years prominently identified with the civic and political life of his community and Warren county.  He died several years ago. Mrs. Akers was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.  She is survived by four sons, W.S. Akers and Lorenza Akers, Centertown, Ross Akers, Princeton, Ky., and Eula Akers, Oxford, Calif.; four daughters, Mrs. J. Burr Wilson, Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. S.F. Bratcher and Mrs. Alton Davenport, Centertown, and Miss Lona Akers, who made her home with her mother at Centertown; one brother, J.B. Lance, Jonesboro, Ark., and one sister, Mrs. Matilda Michael, Centertown.
