Sign Program
Our friends over at the Stewart County Historical Society have a goal of placing new signs at all of the county's cemeteries, to ensure that these historical places are not lost or disrupted. The cost for a sign and post is $50.00. So far, 234 signs have been posted. If you would like to 'adopt' a cemetery or make a general donation, please contact Kim Schmidt. |

Guardian Records |
Guardianships were required when minor children received an
inheritance. The County Court appointed one or more guardians
to oversee the money, invest, and disburse it, and make a periodic
accounting with the County Court until the minor reached legal age. From 1804-1842, guardian records were recorded in the Settlements, Wills and Bonds books (see section below); from 1842, they were recorded in their own minute and settlement books. The original papers, however, do not survive. (1842-1955 Guardian Records are at the Stewart County Archives) |
