While teaching at Cedar Creek, Ellis Kelly Hickam boarded at the home of Martin Dale Weems (1858-1923), a gentleman farmer who had previously been a saddler in St. Claire, Hawkins County. Mr. Martin was married to Harriet Paralee Seaver (1861-1922) of Hawkins County, in 1878.
The Weems had three children: Charles; Maude Lee (1883-1920) and Walter. Maude Lee Weems and Ellis Kelly Hickam were married 28 April 1912.
E.K. Hickam first married Louise Carr of Piney Flats who died in childbirth. Their only son. R.J. Hickam, died very young. E.K. married secondly, Maude Lee Weems. Their children: Daisy Irene (1913), Howard Dale Hickam (1914). Mr. Hickam married thirdly, Frona Cox Jobe who died 1965.
Mr. Hickam died 1 July 1956.
