UNNAMED CEMETERY ON TOM LEWIS ROAD

This entry is unconfirmed – more information is needed.

Washington County, Tennessee Tombstone Inscriptions by Charles M. Bennett and the Watauga Association of Genealogists. Information used with the permission of Lorraine Bennett Rae.

Information came from notes used by Mr. Bennett during his research. An indicator for a possible burial ground was found his topographic map notes. No name or any details were found in his records. One map highlights this location as “3-A”, the placement of which is a little to the east of Mr. Bennett’s notation.

During a physical inspection of the site, no conclusive evidence was found. At the “upper” location, a couple of mild depressions were found. At the lower location, several rocks were found lying around, but none met the “planted gravestone” visual. The area is somewhat wooded, grazed by cattle, and covered with many loose rocks. Nothing stands out conclusively, other than Mr. Bennett’s notation of a possible burial ground. Mr. Bennett’s notes do not contain his customary “checked & complete” notation after he confirmed a burial ground. There was no physical evidence found at the “3-A” location slightly to the east.
