A very thorough field search was conducted over a couple of trips, and in coordination with Gary Miller, who owns Millercrest Farm. Gary’s father had purchased that property in the early 1960’s. No burial location was found, nor could Gary recall ever hearing of or seeing anything to match the description.

A review of the maps from the Bennett collection showed a mark east of the Millercrest Farm, so searching efforts and deed research began in that direction. From that search, as well as a couple of interviews with a few neighbors lead to the spot being found. It was found virtually exactly as described years ago. Purposely planted fieldstones and depressions, marked by boxwood.

The dwelling house currently at the site was built in 1997, the land prior to that being vacant and adjacent to the Millercrest Farm. It is unknown whether or not the former Miller perhaps leased that farmland and added to the location confusion. Gary Miller did not know the answer to that.

Deeds

Review of deeds found all to be silent on any existence of a burial ground. The site of the burial ground was part of the vast Francis holdings in the earlier part of the 20th century. At one point prior to that, a George A. Miller owned the larger parcel, perhaps that fact added to the naming confusion. George Miller and Gary Miller are not known to be related at all.

No evidence has been found to aid in identifying who may have established this burial ground.

Burials – Unknown – fieldstones only.
