From History of Washington County, Tennessee, 1988, p. 383:
… It is believed, Nicholas, Sr. is the son of Gabriel or son of Elder Nicholas; Nicholas is on Fredrick County Census. Nicholas married Elizabeth Hashbargar in Fredrick County, Maryland. Their children were: Jacob (1790), Daniel (1799), John Henry, Mary, Margarette, David, Sarah, Simon and Nicholas, Jr. (1890-1962). Nicholas and family came to Washington County in 1901. After Nicholas Sr. died, Nicholas, Jr. continued to live with his mother until 1846 when he purchased land on Cedar Creek in Gray Community. Nicholas Jr. married Elizabeth Adams February 12, 1848. She was the daughter of Alexander Adams and Lydia Brown. They were buried at Buffalo Ridge Cemetery. Lydia’s parents were Jacob Brown and Christina Ramey.
Nicholas, Jr. was a cobbler. Nicholas died of scarlet fever 1862 during the Civil War. He was buried on the farm. Elizabeth reared her children and remarried, David Owens, who was a carpenter. David was buried Buffalo Ridge Cemetery and Elizabeth was buried Liberty Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
