Concrete Slab on top of Indian Ridge Railroad Tunnel

January 4, 1907, four men were killed in an accident while building the Indian Ridge railroad tunnel in the Knob Creek Community of Washington County. The men were buried on top of the tunnel with four flat markers. Only part of a poured concrete monument with hand lettering was found.

The right bottom portion of the slab has been broken off. It was assumed that the other two names were listed there.

The Clinchfield Papers in the Archives of Appalachia at East Tennessee State University starts with 1912 accident and injury reports. No newspaper articles about the 1907 accident has been found.
