The Ira Green House was built circa 1812; this two-story frame house was constructed by Ira Green in Broylesville. Dr. A.S.N. and Nannie Jane McGaughery Dobson purchased the farm and house from Ira Green’s son, Adam, in 1866. Ira Green also purchased a lot in Brownsborough.
In 1829 Ira Green signed a petitioned to the legislature to clear the Nolichucky of obstructions, stating that the river was their main route “in the transportation of their surplus commodities, that notwithstanding the great quantity of produce annually freighted on said river, it is so obstructed with dams for fish traps and other purposes that the safe navigation therefore is greatly injured.
