DEEDS –
Deed Book 135, Page 528 (1919) – 103 acre share assigned to Ailie (spellings vary) E. Galloway Shipley (Mrs. Walter).
Deed Book 137, Page 16 (1919) – 95 acre share assigned to Clyde Galloway.
Ailie and Clyde were the children of Jesse B. Galloway. Jesse had inherited the entire parcel of approximately 198 acres from his father, Isaac Galloway. The share allocated to Ailie is the parcel that contains the subject burial ground. Both of the above deeds were silent on the graveyard.
Deed Book 154, Page 356 (1922) – Ailie, joined by her husband Walter, conveyed the 103 acres to Robert A. Cox. This deed contains the following provision. “We also retain a right of way from the public road to the Grave yard lot. The said Lot as now fenced or enclosed, is excepted from this conveyance.”
The property remained in Robert A. Cox and heirs until 2006 when it was purchased and subsequently subdivided into what is now known as Cambridge Grove. The graveyard is shown as Washington County tax parcel 027JB019.00 on Waverly Court and although shown in the developer’s name, no deed has been found to divest title out of Ailie Galloway Shipley.
