This cemetery is on the land owned by William Ellis about the time the Revolutionary War closed. There is little doubt that William Ellis was a Revolutionary Soldier. The will of William Ellis, 11 September 1809, Book 1, page 79 Washingotn County, Tennessee, shows that he had grandchildren living at that date. In this will, he names his wife, Martha, the following children and grandchildren: Margaret Beane, a daughter, the widow of Edward Beane, property to go to her children after her death; Jacob Ellis, a son; James Ellis, a son; Martha Ellis, a daughter, Clark Ellis a son; Elijah Ellis, a son; William Ellis, a son; John Ellis, a son; Ellis Grisham, a grandson; Elizabeth and Margaret Grisham, grandddaughters. Some of the Ellis marriages in Washington County are as follows: Isaac Martin and Polly Ellis, 25 December 1818 (license); Elijah Ellis and Jane McAdams, 14 Marc 1831; William Ellis and Mary McAdams, 8 Feb 1825; Clark Ellis and Nancy Liken, 4 December 1811; John Ellis and Elizabeth Shipley, 28 December 1830.
