From the Charles M. Bennett volume 2 WCCL listing* –
“3 mi NW Jonesboro on the Bridge Larimer farm. Established during the Civil War. William Cox is the only person buried there. Confederate soldiers brought William Cox from Greene County and killed him and buried him in the woods.”
Some maps have shown this burial ground near Tara Ct., off Carroll Creek Rd., in Johnson City. The Larimer farm in that area was not the Elbridge M. Larimer farm, but rather the Victor Larimer farm. Victor’s father, James, was a first cousin of Elbridge.
Elbridge “Bridge” M. Larimer settled in what is now the Hairetown Road area, near Stuart’s Hill, Jonesborough. Two deeds conveyed approximately 27 acres total to him – being DB124/16 and DB183/331. Today, the Meadowlark Subdivision is in those acres. This location would coincide with the WCCL location NW of Jonesborough. Also, the Old Stage/Hairetown Road would have been an important thoroughfare from Greene County during the Civil War.
Utilizing an old topographic map, it is believed that the Larimer homeplace was between what is now 240 and 254 Hairetown Road, on a now vacant lot, and was fairly close to the road. The surrounding area has a lot of woods, plus with a new subdivision cut in, and the fact that no marker was ever found before, it would be impossible to know exactly where the grave might be located.
