J. R. Hodges Jr. – GRAY
J.R. Hodges Jr., 62, 263 Flourville Rd., Gray, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. Hodges was a native of Sullivan County and the son of J.R. Hodges Sr. and the late Opal Green Hodges.
He was a graduate of Mary Hughes High School and East Tennessee State University.
Mr. Hodges retired as a research chemist from Tennessee Eastman in December 1999 after 35 years with the company.
He was a former member of the Metro Kiwanis Club.
Mr. Hodges was a member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church, but attended Boones Creek Bible Church.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include his wife, Carolyn Glass Hodges, of the home; two daughters: Jennifer Collins, Telford, and Carrie Hodges, Gray; one granddaughter, Hannah Collins; two sisters: Ann Shipley and Brenda Lynch, both of Gray; two nephews: Lee Jay and Matthew Lynch; one niece, Wendi Shipley; and his father-in-law, Elmer Glass.
The funeral service for Mr. Hodges will be conducted Sunday, July 25, 2004, at 2:30 PM in Boones Creek Bible Church, 1528 Old Gray Station Road, with Pastor Dale Cunningham and Rev. Larry Draper officiating.
Interment will follow in Boones Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers, who are requested to be at the church by 2:15 PM, will be Charles Glass, Gary Glass, Bobby Glass, Kenneth Glass, Mike Glass and Tony Glass. There is no visitation scheduled.
