NEGRO – 6-1/4 miles southeast of Jonesboro on the John Berry farm. Established in 1850. Sidney MAVERICK buried here.”

2 DB43-529 & Others (6)

It appears that the direction of “southeast” should, in fact, be “southwest”. The John Berry farm was located in the Mayberry community and Sidney Maverick’s small farm was located adjacent to the Mayberry-Vincent United Methodist Church.

No evidence of a burial ground on the parcel that was once owned by Sidney Maverick. That property is known as 204 & 238 May Road, Jonesborough and is designated as Washington County tax parcels 082-130.00 and 082-131.00

Several local people were asked about the presence of a burial ground in that area with negative results.

Deeds reviewed were silent.
