Fought with the Rainbow Division in World War 1,  He attained the rank of Private but was a sharpshooter, "rated 2nd out of 34,000 at Camp Gordon.  He lived at his residence at 3215 Coles Ferry Pike until his death at age 84 from cancer, dying in 1975 and is buried in the Wilson County Memorial Gardens in Lebanon, Tennessee.
