Flatwoods 1921 View of store, blacksmith shop, Hamm’s grocery

Sam and Harriet Boyce lived in the center of Flatwoods, TN. In the far background are the huge old store ( in 1921, Bud Sharp’s Store), the Wash Hutson/George & Trester Ary Blacksmith Shop, and just the rooftop of Ross and Audrey Hamm’s Store in the trees on the far right. In the foreground are some of Sam and Harriet’s grandchildren: Sam’s granddaughters Wilton, Marie, and Mildred Boyce, who were sisters; to their right, swinging on the clothes line are the girls’ brother William Earl Boyce, Jr. and their cousin William “Bill Hub” Boyce. William Earl and his sisters were children of Dr. W. Earl Boyce and Virgie Bromley Boyce. Bill Hub was the son of Herbert “Hub” Boyce and Lillie Fluty Boyce. Bill Hub and Lillie had moved to near Holdenville, Oklahoma. Also of interest is that a limestone stepping stones walkway leading from the house was about five feet away to the left of where Wilton was standing beside the tree. At the end of the walkway, Harriet had planted a bright red peony, which bloomed to the children’s delight.
