JAMES FLOYD ROGERS
Chapter XIV
Rev. and Mrs. Floyd Rogers and grandchildren.
James Floyd Rogers was born March 1,1898 to Richard Rogers and wife, Matilda Todd Rogers. He had four brothers and two sisters. Three of his brothers Arkin, Alean and Loren, are now deceased. Lonnie H. Rogers lives in Henderson, Tennessee. The two sisters are Mrs. Leva Brewer of Henderson, Tennessee and Mrs. Bonnie Mae Stoots of Brownsville, Tennessee.
He attended Union University in Jackson 1916-1922 and Southwestern at Fort Worth 1925-1928.
He was called to preach at the age of sixteen at his home church, Old Jacks Creek, Jacks Creek, Tennessee. His first pastorate was at Pinson, Tennessee. He was ordained in 1918, S. Royal, Jackson by Walter Edwards, C.L. Parish and A.L. Bates. His preaching ministry was fifty nine (59) years and during his lifetime, he served in the following churches: Falcon, McNairy County; Good Hope in McNairy County; Pharr, Texas; Madisonville, Texas; Bridgeport, Texas; Wortham, Texas; Home, Texas; Sadler, Texas; Moderator of Creath Brazos Association; Rock Prairie, Texas; Walnut Grove. Ripley, Tenn.; Mt. Bush, Ripley, Tenn.; Durhamville, Tenn.; Old Jacks Creek Church, Jacks Creek, Tenn.; Union at Chesterfield, Tenn.; Bear Creek, Parsons, Tenn.; Sand Ridge, Lexington, Tenn.; Sardis Ridge, Parsons, Tenn.; Mt. Ararat, Darden, Tenn. He was Chairman of Evangelism as well as Moderator of Beech River Association.
Brother Rogers served the Army as Chaplain from January 26,1943 to January 26, 1946 in the Middle East.
On April 20, 1959, he was married to Annie Townsend Dodd Rogers. The wedding was performed by Rev. J. V. Reeves in his home at Darden, Tenn. Witnesses were Loren and Electa Rogers of Henderson, Tenn.
Brother Rogers was the father of James K. Rogers, born December 30, 1922; Mrs. Al Washington, (Margaret Ann), born September 30, 1928; Gary Rogers, who died in March of 1977; Greg Rogers and Johnny Rogers. Stepchildren were J.D. Dodd of Honolulu, Hawaii and Mrs. Robert (Betty) Elam of Jackson, Tenn. Rev. James Floyd Rogers died September 4, 1977 after a long illness.
