MCMILLAN FAMILY SKETCH
Chapter XIV
James Logan McMillan and Nina Stout were married in 1907
Gilbert McMillan moved from Stewart County to Decatur County, Tennessee in 1822. His wife Sarah (Nichols) bore nine children, six of whom survived. One son John worked on a farm, then became sheriff. During the first year of the Civil War he organized a company and was elected Captain. He was in the battle of Shiloh as well as a number of skirmishes. He married Mary A. Hayes and they had four children Leora, Ella, William I. and John G. John was a physician who practiced medicine in Decaturville until his death in 1933. He was at times involved in politics and was never reticent in expressing his views. He was married to Kittie Dennison and they had four children, three of whom lived. Lessie married J. D. Porter and resided in Parsons and Paris Tennessee. They had one daughter Maxine (Welch) of Sarasota, Florida. The other children of Dr. John and Kittie were Curry of Chicago, and James Logan of Decaturville. James Logan was a physician and practiced in Decaturville until his death in 1936. He had been president of the Tri-County Medical Association, and the West Tennessee Medical Association. He was married to Nina Stout who was a music teacher and organist at the Methodist Church. Nina lived until 1972. They had one son, James Reeder McMillan, a physician who practiced medicine in New York City and Princeton, New Jersey. He retains the family homeplace and an interest in Decaturville affairs.
