ELLIS, Alfred (#125). When Received: May 5, 1834; Crime: Volentary Manslaughter, From What County: Claiborne; Age: 19; Occupation: Moulder; Sentence: 5 years; Where Born: Tennessee; When Discharged: May 6, 1839; By What Authority: Conduct Generally Good. Alfred ELLIS was received May sixth one thousand eight hundred & thirty four. He is five feet nine & a half inches in height & weighs One hundred & Sixty Six pounds, Dark hair, grey eyes, & tolerably fair complexion, thick nose, large face, short forehead. Nineteen years of age. Born & brought up in Claiborne County, Tennessee. His mother resides in Sharps furnace, Grainger County, Tennessee. He has one brother, married, living in Sullivan County, Tenn. An uncle named FURRY lives at Crokets Iron Works in Claiborne County, Tenn. Another uncle Isaac SUTHAT living near McHenry's ferry on Powells rive about eight miles from the Town of Tazwell. He has a scar on the ball of the left thumb. The toe next to the great toe is crooked and the next appears to ride upon it. He is very clear of scars. Is a moulder of Castings by Trade. Was found guilty of Voluntary Manslaughter at the Circuit Court of Claiborne County & Sentenced to Five years Confined in the Jail & Penitentiary House of the State of Tennessee. Alfred ELLIS was discharged by expiration of sentence May 6th 1839.
