Captain Phillips Regimetn at Barboursville, KY on August 16,
1861. He and his brothers and cousins had traveled by night,
and slept by day, to cross over from East tN to KY to enroll
in the Union army. At the time of his discarge on 11/8/1862
he was listed as 31 years old, 5' 9", dark complexion,
gray eyes, auburn hair, occupation: farmer, born in "Camel"
(Campbell) County. He was declared physically unfit due to
a chronic ulcer on his left leg and a general weak constitution.
He had suffered from the ulcer off and on for the prior 16
years. Prior to disharge, he was taken as a prisoner of war
by the CSA on 9/18/62, but was paroled on 10/11/62 at the

the Union went to his home and retrived him, as on July 20,

Georgia." He deserted again on 2/29/1864. His desertion
papers listed him as 19 years old, 5' 10", fair complexion,
blue eys, light hair, born in Campbell Co., TN, occupation:
farmer. He must have returned, or was brought back again,
as he was next discharged on 2/23/1865 after his 3 year "term
