He worked in the coal mine's Rex no. 1 and 2. He was married to Effie Lamb Rogers born Mar 23 1907. They had four children Carl Edward Rogers, Cleda Lorraine Rogers, Bobbie Jean Rogers Wright, and ,Joseph Matthew Rogers Jr., who was killed by a train in 1945.
Joseph Matthew Rogers' parents were Joe and Sarah E. Rogers, both born in 1853.Joseph Matthew Rogers ran a small business in Lafollette till he died. He worked also at Tennessee Eastman corporation.
His work was essential to the production of the atomic bomb, thereby contributing to the successful conclusion of World War 2.
He was awarded a certifcate in appreciation of effective service,
dated August 6, 1945
