Baker's Forge Memorial Cemetery, a TVA re-internment cemetery, was established in 1934 while Norris Dam was under construction as a memorial to the members of the Captain Archibald Myers Post of the Grand Army of the Republic. Those buried in cemeteries, which would be flooded when the dam was completed, were eligible to be moved and re-buried at government expense. TVA worked with the Campbell County and other impacted counties to determine who to move and to move markers or place new markers on the re-interned graves. Family members who wished their departed loved ones to be moved gave information about each person as to name, age at death, cause of death if known, birth date if known, etc. These people were moved to plots designated for that family. These plots in the blocks for each family were and are the property of the original family even if not yet used.

The Old Baker's Forge Cemetery in Sugar Hollow near where the Baker family operated a forge in the 1800s, which straddles the shoreline of Norris Lake, is only accessible on foot or by boat. It has not been maintained since most of those buried there were re-interned at Baker's Forge Memorial TVA in the 1930s.

A new board of trustees was created in 1976 to oversee the cemetery's upkeep and maintenance of the cemetery. The Board was not authorized to sell plots in blocks that belonged to the original families even if unused. The images we link to from this page should help in genealogical research but also in determining what family holds ownership of each specific block.
