Mailing lists are an excellent means by which researchers can connect and exchange information. Rootsweb has one of the most extensive set of mailing lists available. Some of the various types of mailing lists include a mailing list for each county in the US, surname mailing lists, subject mailing lists (Civil War, cemeteries, censuses, etc), just to name a few.

The name of the Loudon County mailing list is

tnloudon-l@rootsweb.com (mail mode)

or

tnloudon-d@rootsweb.com (digest mode)

Mail Mode - If you subscribe in mail mode, then you will receive an individual copy of each message submitted to the list.

Digest Mode - If you subscribe in digest mode, then you will receive messages from the mailing list several at a time in a "digest".

To subscribe click on the appropriate list name.

tnloudon-l-request@rootsweb.com (mail mode)

tnloudon-d-request@rootsweb.com (digest mode)

If the above links do not work properly, open an email to one of the above addresses. Leave the subject line blank and put the word "subscribe" without the quotes in the body of the message.

All of the email submitted to the lists are archived. You can search the archives or browse them.

  • To search the archives. Go to the Interactive Search Engine. To search the Loudon County Mailing List, type in "tnloudon" without the quotes at the "Name of List" box. Then click the "Submit Query" button. When the next page comes up, type in your surnames of interest in the "Query" box. Select which year that you are interested in. Then hit "Search." A listing of all mail messages that have been posted to the list with those surnames will be displayed.

  • To browse the archives. Go to the Mailing List Archives. To browse the Loudon County Mailing list, type in "tnloudon" without the quotes at the "Enter the name of a mailing list here: " box. Then click "Submit Query" button. An index to the various months will appear.

Loudon County was formed in 1870 from parts Blount, Monroe, and Roane Counties. If you are researching your ancestors in the Loudon County area and they lived before the formation of Loudon, you will probably want to join their mailing list as well.
