War is one of the most tragic and devastating events in the lives of the people who experience it. The associated paperwork, a byproduct of war, often contains a great deal of genealogical information. Pension applications and bounty land warrants are particularly great resources for information. Loudon County was created in 1870, nearly 100 years after the American Revolution, nearly 60 years after the War of 1812, over 20 years after the Mexican War, and 5 years after the end of the Civil War. Listed below are the major wars that the United States has been involved in and that occurred near or after the formation of Loudon County. Those pages with active links contain additional information.
