Monday July Term 1850
State of Tennessee, Wayne County Be it remembered that a quarterly County Court was began& held for the County of Wayne at the Court house in the town of Waynesboro on the first day it being the first Monday in July in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and fifty the following Justices of the peace present and presiding (to wit) D J JONES Chr. YOUNG LAFFERTY JOBE CARTER BURNS MONTAGUE BARKER WILSON VOORHIES GANT WALTKINS CURTIS BREWER HAM DIXON LEE & RODGERS

Came J P VOORHIES & others who was at a former term of this court appointed a Jury of View to view and mark out so as to change the road leading up Buffalo River and make the following report Begin at David VOORHIES and runne [sic] to John CRAIGs which report was [Ordered-crossed out] received by the Court and ordered to be recorded

Ordered by the Court that E POLLACK be appointed Overseer of the opening and Keeping up the road as viewed and marked out by J P VOORHIES & others and that he have the following hands George I WALKER Samuel VOORHIES David VOORHIES hands James VOORHIES George W PERY James McCAN Solom COUCH, and all the hands in the bounds to work under his direction Isued July 25th 1850

A settlement between Wm JONES Clerk of this Court and John N MARTIN Guardian of the minor heirs of Nathaniel MARTIN dec’d was this day submitted to the Court which was received by the Court & ordered to be recorded

Ordered by the Court Jonathan MORRIS James ANDERSON & John McDOUGAL be appointed a committee to superintend the Painting outside the wood work [Window Casing – crossed out]& c of the Court house in Waynesboro

Came James ANDERSON Administrator of the Estate of Jesse COPELAND Dec’d and returned into court an Inventory of said Estate verified by his oath which was received and ordered to be recorded

Came James ANDERSON Administrator of all and singular the googs[sic] & Chattles rights& credits of the estate of Elizabeth LOYD dec’d and returned into Court an Inventory of said Estate verified by his oath which was received and ordered to be recorded

Came T H MABRY Trustee of Wayne County and entered into bond in the sum of Twenty six hundred dollars with C B McLEAN Jon. MORRIS & J L CYPERT his securities Condition for the faithful paying out all monies that shall come into his hands on account of Common School which was received by the Court and ordered to be recorded

Upon motion to appropriate to John McDOUGAL & others entitled thereto the sum of fifteen 50/100 [twenty one 25/100 [ – crossed out] dollars in a bill of cost against Wayne County to wit State of Tennessee vs Stephen PARSLEY & others James P CLARK Clerk of Supreme Court five 75/100 dollars Clerk John McDOUGAL five 75/100 dollars Sheriff PUGH four dollars those who voted in the affirmative were D J JONES Chr. YOUNG LAFFERTY CARTER BURNS MONTAGUE BARKER WILSON VOORHIES WATKINS GANT CURTIS and LEE 13 Noes none so said appropriation was made to be paid out of any monies in the hands of the County Trustee not otherwise appropriated Isued July 25th 1850

Came Nathan BIFFLE and others who was appointed at a former term of this Court a Jury to view and mark out a a change in the road and reported a change found as of directed in the order which was received and ordered to be recorded

Came Wm B walker and other who was at a former term of this appointed a July[sic]
of View and mark out a change in the road and report a change as directed which was received by the Court and ordered to be recorded

Upon motion to appropriate to Jonathan MORRIS the sum of twelve dollars and fifty three cents the amount by him expended for BOYD a pauper of said County Those who voted in the affirmative were D J JONES Chr. YOUNG LAFFERTY JOBE CARTER BURNS BARKER WILSON VOORHIES WATKINS GANT CURTIS & LEE 13 Noes MONTAGUE 1 So said appropriation was made to be paid out of any monies in the hands of the trustee not otherwise appropriated Isued July 25th 1850

Upon motion to appropriate to Jonathan MORRIS the sum of six dollars by him [expended-crossed out] paid to Mr. McDOLE[??] for taking care of a pauper those who voted in the affirmative were D J JONES Chr. YOUNG LAFFERTY JOBE CARTER BURNS MONTAGUE BARKER WILSON VOORHIES WATKINS GANT CURTIS HAM & LEE 15 Noes none so said appropriation was made to be paid out of any monies in the hands of the County trustee not otherwise appropriated Isued July 25th 1850

Ordered by the Court that J I BIFFLE be appointed overseer of the road of 2d Class in the place of Hiram BRYSON and that he have the hands in the same bounds to work under his direction Isued July 25th 1850

Ordered by the court that Luke LEE be appointed overseer of the road of 2d Class in the place of James I[?] SCOTT and that he have the hands in the same bounds to work under his direction Isued July 25th 1850

Ordered by the Court that the following good and lawful men of the County of Wayne be appointed and summonds by the Sheriff of said County to attend and serve as Jurors at the next term of our Circuit Court [term-crossed out] to be held at the Court house in the town of Waynesboro on the fourth Monday in September next (To wit) John DAVIS Daniel MABERRY Marcus COOK Isaac W ROSS Clanton THORP Isaac MORRIS William L T EDWARDS John M HUTTON George W BARKER David VOORHIES John C G WILSON Andrew P DOWNING James D COPELAND John WHITE Pitere M SATTERFIELD Jackson DOOLIN William R CURTIS Joseph HOLT Turner M WHITTEN Andrew J BREWER [John LISLE crossed out] Jeremiah MOATS John MELTON John W. LEE Mordica THORNTON Charles R WALKER and that John F HALL and John JACKSON Jr. be appointed and summonds to attend as Constables and wate[sic] on the Court and that Venirafacious Isue returnable to said Circuit Court Isued July 25 1850

On motion to appropriate to A T HASSELL the sum of fourteen dollars [the- crossed out] for bacon furnished the poorhouse those who voted in the affirmative were D J JONES YOUNG [LAFFERTY -crossed out] JOBE CARTER BURNS BARKER WATKINS CURTIS LEE & RODGERS 10 noes none so said appropriation was made to be paid out of any monies in the hand of the Trustee not otherwise appropriated Isued July 25th 1850

Ordered by the Court that Robert JOHNSON William JOHNSON Jefferson JOHNSON Isaac MORTON& James SPAIN be appointed a Jury to view and mark out a chance[sic] in the road commencing at the fall of the branch below B HAMM’s house and intersect the old road at said HAM’s house and that they report the same to the Oct. term of this Court Isued July 25th 1850

Upon motion to appropriate to L D MACK the sum of two 56/100 dollars the amount [by-crossed out] by him furnished plank for the poorhouse those who voted in the affirmative were D J JONES Chr YOUNG JOBE CARTER BURNS BARKER WATKINS CURTIS HAM LEE & RODGERS 11 Noes MONTAGUE 1 So said appropriation was made to be paid out of any monies in the hands of the trustee not otherwise appropriated Isued July 25th 1850

Upon motion to appropriate to W CARTER the sum of $4 25/100 dollars for Coffin furnished for a pauper of Wayne County Those who voted in the affirmative were D J JONES Chr. JOBE BURNS MONTAGUE BARKER & RODGERS 6 Noes YOUNG 1 So said appropriation was made to be paid out of any monies in the hands of the trustee not otherwise appropriated Isued July 25th 1850

Upon motion to appropriate to A T HASSELL the sum of twenty five dollars for labor done on the public square in the town of Waynesboro those who voted in the affirmative were D J JONES Chr. YOUNG JOBE CARTER BURNS BARKER WATKINS GANT CURTIS HAM LEE RODGERS 12 Noes MONTAGUE 1 So said appropriation was made to be paid out of any monies in the hands of the County trustee not otherwise appropriated Isued July 25th 1850

This day Matthew J SIMS presented to the Court his resignation to the office of Justice of the peace of the eight civil district Wayne County in writing which was received by the Court and ordered to be recorded

Notice was this day given to the Court by Katherine COPELAND widow of Jesse COPELAND Dec’d that she will apply at the August term of this court to have two freeholders appointed to apportion her dower

Ordered by the Court that Joseph HAM be appointed overseer of the road of 2d Class in the place of G R BIFFLE and that he have the hands in the same bounds to work under his direction Isued July 25th 1850

Came James ANDERSON who was at a former term of this Court appointed Administrator of all and singular the goods & Chattles rights and credits of Jesse COPELAND dec’d and suggested in writing the Insolvency of said estate it is therefore ordered by the Court that such publication be given as in by law in such cases required and that notice be given to all person having Claims against said estate to file them with the Clerk of this Court by the first day of January net duly authenticated as the law directs for prorate distribution[sic] or they will be forever barred

Came Joseph HOLT & others who was at a former term of this Cort[sic] appointed a Jury to view so as to change the Waynesboro & Florence Road by the plantation of Samuel LAWSON and report a change as directed in the order which was received by the Court and ordered to by[sic] recorded

Monday July Term 1st 1850
Came Daniel PHILIPS & others who was at a former term of this Court appointed a Jury of View to view & mark out so as to Change the road running dow[sic] little Cypress Commencing opposite George WHITTEN‘s and report a change made as directed in the said order which was received and ordered to be recorded

A settlement between Wm JONES Clerk of this Court and T.H. MABRY Trustee of said County of the apportionment and distribution of the Common School monies in the year 1849 was this day submitted to the Court which was received and ordered to be recorded

Ordered by the court that Samuel BECKHAM be appointed overseer of the road of 2d Class in the place of John MELSON and that he have Wm ETHRIDGE John MELSON & John ROBINS and all the hands in that bounds to work under his direction Isued July 25th 1850

Came Elizabeth CARTER who has been constituted and appointed Guardian to Soloman K CARTER Joseph W CARTER John R CARTER & George J CARTER minor heirs of David CARTER Dec’d and entered into bond in the sum of fifty one hundred and sixty dollars with Daniel T CARTER and Rutha M CARTER her securities which was approved by the Court and ordered to be recorded
