Irving Ashford’s Rites Set Today

Funeral services for Irving R. Ashford, retired Mississippi planter and resident of McMinnville for several years, will be conducted this Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the chapel of High Funeral Home. Rev. C.B. Smith, pastor of First Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be in Riverside cemetery.  Mr. Ashford, 75, died unexpectedly at Medical Clinic Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock, after suffering a stroke at his home on North Spring street a short while earlier.  A native of Giles county, Mr. Ashford was born August 7, 1877. He was a son of P.C. Ashford and Lucinda Tinnon Ashford and he was married to Miss Agnes Kelly. She survives. In the early forties Mr. and Mrs. Ashford came to McMinnville to make their home with his sister, Mrs. Lula McGregor, and during World War II he was employed in defense industries at Tullahoma and Oak Ridge. Previous to his residence here, Mr. Ashford had lived at Shaw, Miss., where he operated a large plantation. His wife and sister are the only survivors. High Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
