SMALLWOOD, MARY E. From the Kingsport Times (Kingsport TN) 17 Aug 1920. Mrs. Mary E. Smallwood, wife of Theophilus Smallwood, deceased, died at her home at 9 o’clock Friday morning. She was 64 years old at the time of her death. Funeral services were conducted from the home at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon by her pastor, Rev. E. O. Woodyard, assisted by Rev. W. S. Hendricks, pastor of the Methodist Church South. Following the services at the home the body of Mrs. Smallwood was interred in the Bachman Cemetery by the side of the husband and those of her children who had preceded her to the grave. Mrs. Smallwood is survived by four sons, four daughters, two sisters and twenty-two grandchildren. She was a woman of sterling character and lovable disposition and had a host of friends in and about Kingsport to mourn her loss. Those officiating as pallbearers at the funeral were W. C. Marsh, Victor Patton, George Steffey, Guy Devault, John Thomas Roller and Ben Bardill. Flower bearers were Mrs. Milt Crawford, Mrs. Julia Barker, Mrs. Nannie Reed and Miss Lela Reed.  Submitted by Anne Livingston
