John Sterling Neblett, died at his home, 1216 North Sixteeneth Street sunday at 6 p.m., aged 85, following an illness of only a few days.
Mr. Neblet was born in Montgomery County, the son of Sterling Macand and Anna Runyon Kessee Neblett. He attended school in that county, and later was county trustee for several terms. He was married January 1, 1873, to Miss Pattie E. Gholson. Mrs. Hadley Allen, of Palmyra, Tenn., the only daughter by that marriage, survives.
Mr. Neblett was married December 17, 1883, to Miss Lillie Lyle, who survives him. The following children also survive him: Mrs. Reid Lyle, Miss Kate Neblett, and Sam Neblett, all of Nashville.
Thirty years ago, Mr. Neblett came to Nashville from Clarksville, Tenn., to enter the service of the Apex Oil Company, with which company he had ben connected ever since. He was a member of the East End Methodist Church, and of the Men's Bible Class of that church, since coming to Nashville.
On December 31, 1934, Mr. and Mrs. Neblett celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary, at their home in Nashville.
Funeral services will be conducted at the residence Tuesday aftenoon, at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. John W. Baggett, assisted by Dr. T.C. Ragsdale, of Springfield, and Dr. A.P. ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFO FROM UNKNOWN SOURCE
John Neblett was born March 18, 1850 in Montgomery County, and is of Scottish descent. He was raised on a farm and attended county schools. At the age of sixteen he came to Clarksville and began clerking for the grocery house of J.J. Crusman, where he stayed for five years. He then went to Keesee & Northington and clerked there for two years. On January 1, 1873, he married Pattie E. Gholson. They had three children: Ruth, born in 1874 and died in 1878; Georgia A., born December 15, 1876, and Gholson, born June 30, 1878. Pattie died December 17, 1883. On December 13, 1884, he married Lillian S. Lyle, daughter of Hon. W.J. Lyle. In 1878, he was elected county trustee and re-elected in 1880 and again in 1882. In 1884 he again worked for Keesee & Northington. John was also a farmer and a leading citizen.

Pattie Gholson died of consumption, near the city, on Paradise Hill Rd. She was the daughter of Col. M.G. Gholson, next to last of a large family. She was Episcopal, wife of county trustee, John S. Neblett. Leaves one child. Interment at Gholson Cemetery, in District #13.

ADELINE AGNESS OGBURN SWIFT
DATE OF DEATH - JANUARY 6, 1885
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TN
Mrs. Adeline Swift, wife of Dr. George H. Swift, died at her residence in the county, January 6, of paralysis. She was the daughter of Major Thomas Ogburn, and married Mr. Bradley Martin, by whom she had two children, and after his death, she married Dr. Swift, by whom she had several children. She was stricken with paralysis some 3 years ago and never recovered. She was a good Christian woman, and was greatly beloved by all who knew her.

Mrs. Etha Ogburn died sunday morning at 5 o'clock at the home of her son-in-law, Mr. Spencer Daniel, near this city. She was buried in Greenwood Cemetery at 10:30 this morning. The service was attended by a large number of friends. She is survived by three sons, Joe H. and Thomas A. Jones and John Ogburn, and one daughter, Mrs. Spencer Daniel. Had she lived until January, she would have been 87 years old. She was a member of the Methodist Church, having joined when she was nine years old. She was a woman who possessed much information and was a general favorite with all with whom she associated.

THOMAS OGBURN

Thomas Ogburn, whose illness the Leaf has noted recently, died at his home in the twenty-first district last friday, aged nearly ninety years. Until a few weeks ago, Colonel Ogburn was erect and possessed wonderful vitality for one of his years, but when he began to fail, the life current ran out rapidly, death resulting in a short while. He was a good citizen, a man of sterling integrity and truthfulness, and a good neighbor. He will be missed in his neighborhood.

MARY HELEN MARABLE

We are sorry to chronicle the death of little Mary, the three-year old daughter of Dr. S.A. Marable, who died last sunday evening after six hours illness of inflammation of the brain. Little Mary was the idol of her father, and was the pet of all who knew her.

Mrs. Johnson Dies, Funeral Thursday
Mrs. Mary Marable Johnson, 73, of Route 1, Guthrie, died at 11:15 p.m. tuesday in Memorial Hospital. She had been ill six weeks.
Funeral services will be conducted thursday at 2:00 p.m. at McReynolds Chapel by Fred Hembree, minister. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
She was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, born September 18, 1888, daughter of the late Henry and Caroline Edwards Marable.
Survivors are her husband, Will Henry Johnson, two sons, Malcolm Ingram, Chicago, and Arline Ingram, Clarksville: three daughters, Mrs. Ethel Mann, Detroit, Mrs. Katherine Seay, Gilmer, Ill., and Mrs. Lois Seay, Clarksville, two sisters, Mrs. Frank Allen and Mrs. Helen Ingram, Clarksville.
She was a member of the Church of Christ.

MARY JANE BELLAMY MARABLE
DATE OF DEATH - APRIL 23, 1882

We regret to chronicle the death of Mrs. Marable, wife of Dr. J.A. Marable of Blooming Grove Creek which sad event occurred last sunday after a protracted illness of consumption. Mrs. Marable was a member of the Christian Church and truly a good woman. Besides her husband, a large family of children and many friends mourn her loss. We regret to state also that Mr. Marable is a great sufferer at this time.

John Hartwell Marable, 60, of 3675 Scottie, consulting engineer for Allen & Hoshall, died yesterday morning at his home after a long illness. Memphis Funeral Home has charge. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Sarah G. Marable; a daughter, Mrs. Laura M. Rogers of Memphis; two sons, Lt. John H. Marable, III with the Navy in Washington and S. Gray Marable of Southaven, and six grandchildren. The family requests any memorials be sent to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society. Marable was born in Clarksville on August 28, 1925, the son of John Hartwell Marable, Sr. and Myna Marable. He was a member of the consulting firm of Allen and Hoshall, Memphis. Survivors include his wife Sarah G. Marable, Memphis; two sons, Lt. John H. Marable III, Washington, D.C. and S. Gray Marable, Southaven, Miss., one daughter, Laura M. Rogers, Memphis; and six grandchildren.

Services for John Hartwell Marable, 88, who died tuesday in Memorial hospital following a brief illness, will be conducted at 11 a.m. friday at McReynolds-Nave Chapel by the Rev. Billy Craighead. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Marable, a resident of 302 Castle Heights, was a former Finance Commissioner for the City of Clarksville, and a former Trustee of Montgomery County.
He was born in the Tarsus community July 20, 1891, son of the late Dr. Samuel A. Marable and Elizabeth Jackson Marable. His wife, Myna Powers Marable, died in 1963.
Mr. Marable was a member of the Madison Stret United Methodist Church, was a 50-year member of Chapter No. 3 Royal Arch Masons, and Clarksville Commandry No. 8. He was a member of Clarksville Council No. 105 and Al Menah Shrine Temple. He was a veteran of World War I.
Survivors are a son, John Hartwell Marable, Jr., Memphis, two brothers, Judge S.A. Marable, Ashland City, and R.C. Marable, Palmyra; two sisters, Mabel Baggett and Mrs. Annis Powers, Clarksville; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of other remembrances, the family requests any memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, the Heart Association, or the Memorial fund at Madison Street United Methodist Church.
Active pallbearers will be Samuel A. Marable, IV, James E. Marable, Gray Marable, John H. Marable, III, Shelby M. Powers, Jim Thomason, Donald Stone, and J.C. Balthrop.
Honorary Pallbearers will be presiding officer of Masonic bodies, American Legion officers, and members of Madison Street United Methodist Church Bible Class. ASENATH BROWN SHELBY DATE OF DEATH - JUNE 21, 1923

June 22, 1923 - Services for Mrs. Asenath Shelby, 66, wife of W.J. Shelby, who died thursday morning, will be conducted at the home near Jordan Springs in District 4, at 1:00 tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon, according to anouncements today. Reverend J. T. Jenkins will conduct the services. Interment will be in the Edwards Burying Ground. The four sons of Mrs. Shelby and Vernon Adkins and Ben Shelby will serve as pallbearers.

MRS. SHELBY'S FUNERAL HELD
Funeral services for Mrs. Mollie Shelby, who died in a Masonic home in Louisville, KY, were held tuesday afternoon at the Church of Christ. Andrew Morris of Nashville officiated and Henry Arnold led the singing. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Shelby was the widow of the late Tandy Shelby, Jordan Springs community merchant. Both her husband and a daughter, Mrs. James Reynolds, preceded her in death. She leaves a grandson, James Reynolds, Jr.

She was born Sept. 3, 1865 in Oakwood (Montgomery County), TN. The reference to her grandson, James Reynolds, Jr. in the obit is incorrect. His real name was Joseph Melvin Reynolds.

PROMINENT JORDAN SPRINGS MERCHANT DIES AT 67
Tandy John Shelby, prominent merchant at Jordan Springs community for more than a quarter of a century, died at 9:30 o'clock this morning following a serious illness of diabetes and heart trouble for several months. He was 67 years of age.
Funeral arrangements were being held up pending the arrival of a daughter, Mrs. J.J. Reynolds of Moulton, Alabama.
Mr. Shelby was a lifelong resident of the Jordan Springs community and was widely known throughout Montgomery County. He took an active part in civic, religious, social and fraternal life of his neighborhoold, being a member of the Christian Church, the Masonic Lodge and the Modern Woodmen Order.
Mr. Shelby succeeded his father-in-law in the store which he operated, and the business was one of the oldest rural stores in the county. The merchant gained a reputation for himself for his honesty and fair tactics. A son of the late Isaac Shelby and Mrs. Fredonia Chester Shelby, Mr. Shelby was born June 1, 1872. He was married on October 29, 1902 to Miss Mollie Marable. She survives along with one daughter and a grandson, Joe Reynolds; six brothers, Claude, Warner, Albert, Will and Bob Shelby, all of Montgomery County, and Ed Shelby, Joelton, TN, and two sisters, Mrs. Kate Ingram and Mrs. Clyde Clardy, both of Jordan Springs. Frank West, age 52, died of heart trouble at 3:30 this morning at his home on the 7-Mile Fery Road. He was a member of the Baptist Church and is survived by his wife and three small children.
The funeral will be from the home tomorrow at 10:00 and the interment at Greenwood. Dr. Edward Stubblefield will conduct the services. ROSA BLANCHE WHITE WEST DATE OF DEATH - JANUARY 15, 1930

FOLLOWS THREE YEARS OF IMPAIRED HEALTH
A large attendance of friends and relatives was (Unreadable) this afternoon at services conducted at the grave in Greenwood Cemetery at 3:30 o'clock by Dr. John A. Davison at the First Baptist Church for Mrs. Rosa Blanche West, 48, whose death at 4 a.m. today at the home near Seven-Mile Ferry, followed a thre years period of impaired health.
Serving as pallbearers were Robert John, Howard and Tilford Harper, Fred Blake and Frank Smith.
A group of duets was sung by Mrs. A.F. Speight and Mrs. Lawrence Draper.
Mrs. West ws the widow of Frank West whose death occurred eleven years ago. She was born near Jordan Springs on April 3, 1881 and early in life moved with her parents to Clarksville. During her girlhood, she united with the Baptist Church at Ringgold, and upon coming to Clarksville to reside, she joined the First Baptist Church which she faithfully served.
Mrs. West is survived by her mother, Mrs. Jennie White of Clarksville; 3 daughters, Miss Mattie Mae West, who is connected with the Christian-Todd Telephone Company; and Misses Virginia and Elizabeth West, all of this city; four brothers, Charles White, Evansville, Indiana, and Daniel, Jack, and Joe White of clarksville and two sisters, Mrs. W.H. Clark of Hopkinsville, KY and Mrs. Maude Parker of Detroit, MI.
The death of Mrs. West is the occasion of widespread grief among her large acquainteces.

Jack White, 55, grocerman, died at 8 a.m. today at his home, 596 Front Street, after an illness of 2 years.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. monday at Tarpley's Funeral Home. The Rev. C.G. Sego and the Rev. L.W. Carlin will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr. White was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County and was born December 28, 1903, son of the late James D. and Virginia Marable White. He was a member of the Berea Baptist Church.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Mildred Hogue White, to whom he was married November 8, 1930; a daughter, Mrs. Geneva White Radford and grandson, Alton Wayne Radford, both of this city; two brothers, Joe White of this city, and Charles White, Evansville, Indiana and a sister, Mrs. Robert H. Bryant, Clarksville.

Mildred Hogue White, 87, 111 Kimbrough Court, died monday, October 13, 1997, at Clarksville Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. thursday at Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home with the Rev. Verlon Moore officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be today after 1 p.m. and will continue until the hour of service at the funeral home.
She was born November 21, 1909, in Montgomery county, daughter of John B. Hogue and Mitilda Nale Hogue. She was the widow of Jack White.
Mrs. Hogue was a retired proprietor of White's Market and a member of Hilldale Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Geneva White Radford, Clarksville; a foster brother, Paul Suiter, Athens, Ga; a grandchild and a great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Al Radford, Jonathan E. Radford, Bobby Malone, Scott Emerson, Bruce Denny and Andrew Earl. Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Hilldale Baptist Church, 2001 Madison Street, Clarksville, TN 37043.

Well known farmer is victim of Bright's Disease after a long illness.
James D. White, aged 75, died at his home near Seven-Mile Ferry monday night at 12 o'clock. He had been ill for eight months of bright's disease and heart trouble. Mr. White was a farmer of the Ferry neighborhood and was held in highest esteem by a wide circle of friends.
The wife and the following named children survive: Charles, of Evansville; Mrs. W.H. Clark, of Hopkinsville, Mrs. Rosa West, Mrs. R.F. Parker, James D., Jack, and Joe White, all of this city.

J. Daniel White, 60, tinsmith, died at 2 p.m. wednesday at his home, 148 Stafford Street, after a heart ailment of several months. He had been critically ill the past two days.

Mr.White was a native of Evansville, Indiana but spent most of his life in Clarksville. He was born March 11, 1893, son of the late James Daniel White and Jennie Marable White.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Lou West White; a daughter, Mrs. R.E. Brown, Clarksville, three brothers, Joe and Jack White, Clarksville, and Charlie White of Evansville, Indiana; a sister, Mrs. Maude Parker, this city, and four grandchildren.
He was a member of the Kenwood Baptist Church.

Joe White, 85, 345 Greenwood Avenue, died wednesday, January 8, 1992, at his home after a sudden illness.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. saturday at Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home with Dr. Felts Dent officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. friday at the funeral home until the hour of service.
He was born May 15, 1906 in Montgomery County, a son of James W.* White and Mary ** Virginia Marable White. He was the widower of Kathleen Watts White.
He was a retired owner of Joe White Plumbing and Heating and a longtime member of the First Baptist Church and its Baracca class.
Survivors include one son, Howard White, Clarksville; one daughter, Helen Butler, Clarksville, one sister, Virginia Corbley, Madisonville, KY; five grandchildren, and two great-children.

Mrs. Mary Lou White, 77, of 1017 Stafford Street, died tuesday at 12:50 p.m. at Clarksville Memorial Hospital following a six year illness.
Funeral services will be conducted thursday at 2 p.m. at McReynolds Funeral Home by the Rev. John Laida. Burial will be in Greenwood.
Mrs. White was born in Christian County, KY, September 7, 1895, but had lived in Montgomery County most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Matt West. She was a member of Cumberland Drive Baptist Church. Her husband Daniel White, preceded her in death. They were married March 18, 1909.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. H.E. Brown, Clarksville, a brother, Frank West, Clarksville; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON
Death at 9:45 o'clock this morning ended a long period of suffering for Mrs. Susie A. Page, wife of M.E. Page, contractor, living at 409 Main Street. Her health had been exceedingly feeble for the past two months and for more than a week, her condition was critical, causing hope for her recovery to be abandoned last sunday. There had been improvement at intevals during the week, but her death was not unexpected.
Funeral services for Mrs. Page will be conducted at the Church of Christ at Franklin and Seventh Streets at 3:30 o'clock tomorrow (sunday) afternoon by the pastor, the Rev. H. W. Wyre, and the Rev. F.P. Taylor of New Providence. Interment will be in Greenwood* Cemetery.
Mrs. Page was a native of this county, a daughter of the late William and Mrs. Mary Edwards, prominent pioneer citizens of that section. She was born at Oakwood and spent her girlhood there. Following her first marriage to Joseph Sorg, she moved to Texas where she lived a number of years, returning to Clarksville upon the death of her husband. Her marriage to Mr. Page was in April, 1916. Surviving Mrs. Page are the husband, one sister, Mrs. Caroline Edwards Marable, Jordan Springs, three brothers, W.M. Edwards, Wylie, Texas, Andrew Edwards, Denison, Texas, and Jeff Edwards of Oakwood. A large number of devoted nieces and nephews living in this county and distant relatives also survive.
Mrs. Page was a member of the Church of Christ and her Christian birth was reflected in her daily life and contact with people. She was kind, considerate, charitable and devoted to friends, relatives and neighbors. Her home and hospitality was always at the disposal of all she knew and through her kind treatment of all with whom she came in contact. She had acquired a wide circle of devoted friends.
The Board of Stewards and Trustees of the Church of Christ will serve as honorary pallbearers and active pallbearers will be Charles Joshlin, Ed Joshlin, M.N. Munn, Jack Smith, Frank Riley, L.M. Moore, William E. Daniel and W.T. Page.

MRS. REYNOLDS, PASTOR'S WIFE, DIES OF FU
Mrs. Frances Shelby Reynolds, 37, wife of the Rev. J.J. Reynolds, died at 2 o'clock this afternoon in the Clarksville Hospital.
Mrs. Reynolds, who made her home at Jordan Springs and in Nashville where her husband is pastor of the Green Street Church of Christ, became ill last tuesday with influenza. She had not been well for a long time and complications developed. She entered the hospital monday night but continued to grow worse until her death.
A daughter of Mrs. Mollie Marable Shelby and the late Tandy J. Shelby, for many years a prominent Jordan Springs merchant, Mrs. Reynolds was widely known and beloved throughout Montgomery County. She was born on October 29, 1903 and spent most of her life in this County. She was married to Mr. Reynolds seventeen years ago, and is survived by the husband, one son, Joseph M. Reynolds and her mother.
She was a sincere and devoted Christian. Funeral arrangements had not been made this afternoon. The body was taken to McReynolds Chapel.
