PERDUE, Nellie Hire – (d. 1974)

Nellie Hire Perdue, age 76, formerly of Macon County, passed away last Wednesday at Frank Anthony Hospital in Louisville, KY. She was a native of Macon County, the daughter of James Franklin and Ellie White Hire. Her husband, Herbert Perdue, and one son, Clessie Perdue, preceded her in death. Clessie was killed in WWII.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Austin Funeral Home in Lafayette by Rev. H. S. Jenkins, interment was in the Underwood Cemetery.

Survivors include three sons, Dennis and James Perdue, both of Peoria, IL., Darrell Perdue of Tipton, IN.; four daughters Mrs. J. C. Weems of Franklin, KY., Mrs. Roy Claiborne of Lafayette, Mrs. Robert Guinn of Louisville, KY., and Mrs. Alford Gosnell of White House, TN.; three brothers, Lewis Hire, Woodburn, KY., Albert Hire and Leo Hire, both of Lafayette; one sister Mrs. Elsie Jenkins, IN; 22 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

HOSKINS, Mary Shrum – (d. 1956)

Funeral Services For Mrs. Hoskins, 80, Conducted Sunday

Mrs. Mary Shrum Hoskins, 80, died suddenly Friday at the Janwynella Nursing home. She was a native of the Cross Lanes community of Macon County and the daughter of Will and Jane Clark Shrum. She was a member of the Eulia General Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:00 PM at the Eulia General Baptist Church by H.S. Jenkins, Carl Scruggs, and Murrel Wix. Burial was in the Shrum Cemetery.

Survivors include three sons, Rupell Hoskins and Carlean Hoskins, both of Madison, Tenn.; and Hobart Hoskins, Indianapolis, Ind.; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond Moore, Gallatin, Tenn.; and Mrs. Fountain Fuqua, Westmoreland; four sisters, Mrs. Dora Carter, Franklin, KY.; Mrs. Nervie Lee Carter, Portland, Tenn.; Mrs. Agnes Higdon, Nashville, and Mrs. Cora Frye, Westmoreland; 19 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

HIRE, Ellie White – (d. 1949)

Mrs. Ellie Hire Dies at Home Near Oak Dale

Following an attack of double pneumonia, Mrs. Ellie White Hire, aged 75 years, died at two o’clock Wednesday morning at her home in the Oak Dale section of the county. She is survived by her husband , James Hire, who is seriously ill; four sons, S. L. Hire, of Carthage; Lewis Hire, of Franklin, KY; Albert Hire, of the Oak Dale section; Leo Hire of Long Creek; two daughters, Mrs. Nellie Perdue, also of Long Creek, and Mrs. Elsie Jenkins of Indianapolis; a large number of grandchildren, several great great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Bevel of Franklin; and Mrs. Tallie Tire, also of Oak Dale; two ½ brothers, Willie White, of the Long Creek section; and Charlie White of near Lafayette; and an aged stepmother, Mrs. Kittie White, also of Lafayette.
Burial is to take place at 11 o’clock today (Thursday) in the Oak Dale Cemetery, with Rev. Ed Morris, of Bowling Green, in charge of the services. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill General Baptist Church, and was a good woman, loved and highly esteemed by all who knew her. She was the daughter of George White and a native of this county.

DOZIEE, Flossie Fuqua – (d. 1955)

Mrs. Flossie Fuqua Dozier, aged nearly 48 years, died suddenly at her home in Lafayette about one o’clock Monday afternoon. She suffered a heart attack nearly three months ago and spent some time in the local hospital. She had been apparently doing nicely until a short time before the end came unexpectedly on Monday. Her husband, who is a young Baptist minister and also a merchant at Brattontown, was away from home on business when Mrs. Dozier passed away. She leaves, in addition to her husband, two sons, Otis and Jack T. Dozier, residing in their father’s home; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Faye Able, who resides with her soldier husband stationed at present in Alaska; Mrs. Della Mae Jenkins, of Lafayette; and Mrs. Wanda Lee Stinson of Haysville this county; three grandchildren, three brothers, Fred Fuqua, of Detroit; Otto Fuqua, of Indianapolis; and Carney Fuqua, of Tompkinsville, Ky., and one sister, Mrs. Rosa Edens, of Lafayette.

Funeral services were conducted at Brattontown Baptist church at 11 o’clock Wednesday morning by Elders N.C. Fuqua and M.R. Drury, followed with interment in Drury cemetery. The deceased was a good woman and was an excellent member of Brattontown Baptist church. She was a native of Robertson county but had lived most of her life near Lafayette. She was the daughter of the late Rickman and Samantha Reid Fuqua.
