PERDUE, Nellie Hire – (d. 1974)

Nellie Hire Perdue, age 76, formerly of Macon County, passed away last Wednesday at Frank Anthony Hospital in Louisville, KY. She was a native of Macon County, the daughter of James Franklin and Ellie White Hire. Her husband, Herbert Perdue, and one son, Clessie Perdue, preceded her in death. Clessie was killed in WWII.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Austin Funeral Home in Lafayette by Rev. H. S. Jenkins, interment was in the Underwood Cemetery.

Survivors include three sons, Dennis and James Perdue, both of Peoria, IL., Darrell Perdue of Tipton, IN.; four daughters Mrs. J. C. Weems of Franklin, KY., Mrs. Roy Claiborne of Lafayette, Mrs. Robert Guinn of Louisville, KY., and Mrs. Alford Gosnell of White House, TN.; three brothers, Lewis Hire, Woodburn, KY., Albert Hire and Leo Hire, both of Lafayette; one sister Mrs. Elsie Jenkins, IN; 22 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

PERDUE, Gertha

After a brief illness from flu and pneumonia, Mrs. Gertha Perdue, aged 40 years, died at her home in the Underwood community just after midnight Thursday. She is survived by her husband, Ezra M. Perdue; nine children, Tilden, Hildreth, James, Kenneth, Hollis, Marie, Irma, Jewell and Mildred Perdue, all of Underwood; and Mrs. Gracie Wooten of Indianapolis; her step father and mother Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Bandy of Lafayette; one sister, Mrs. Lonnie Hire of Oak Dale; two half-brothers, A. R. Bandy of Oklahoma City and Louis Bandy of Nashville; one half sister Mrs. Ida Meador of Scottsville; and step brothers Britt Bandy of Lafayette and Burton Bandy of Spring Creek.

Burial was made at 3 o’clock Friday afternoon in Underwood Cemetery with funeral services conducted by the Rev. M. D. Claybourne. The deceased was a professed Christian although she was not identified with any church. Her early death and the bereavement of so many children and other relatives occasioned many expressions of sorrow and sympathy.

PERDUE, Dellie Aulene – (d. 1993)

Dellie Aulene Perdue, age 77, of Lafayette, TN., passed away Saturday, April 17, 1993, at University Medical Center in Lebanon, TN. Mrs. Perdue was born in Macon County, the daughter of the late Claude and Francis Driver Fox. Her husband Ezra Perdue, preceded her in death. Also, two sons, Willard and Jewell Perdue, preceded her in death. She was a homemaker.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 19, 1993, at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home in Lafayette by Bro. Thomas E. Roark. Interment was in the Underwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ricky Lawrence, Jonathon, Scottie, Eric, Tony, Shawn and DeWayne Perdue, and Michael Wright.

She is survived by five sons, Bill Perdue, Charles Perdue and Randall Perdue, all of Lafayette, TN., Roger Perdue of Hermitage Springs, TN., Steve Perdue of Mt. Union, KY.; three daughters Elsie Wright of Fountain Run, KY., Virginia Knight of Lafayette, TN., Jo Anna Davis of Columbia, TN.; five step sons, Tillmon Perdue of Lafayette, TN., Hildreth, James, Jesse, and Kenneth Perdue, all of Indianapolis; three step daughters, Gracie Wooten of Indianapolis, IN., Marie Hagenschneider of OH., Mildred Cook of Lafayette, TN.; one brother, Turner Fox of Lafayette, TN.; 20 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren. Alexander Macon County Funeral Home, in Lafayette, in charge of arrangements.

HIRE, Ellie White – (d. 1949)

Mrs. Ellie Hire Dies at Home Near Oak Dale

Following an attack of double pneumonia, Mrs. Ellie White Hire, aged 75 years, died at two o’clock Wednesday morning at her home in the Oak Dale section of the county. She is survived by her husband , James Hire, who is seriously ill; four sons, S. L. Hire, of Carthage; Lewis Hire, of Franklin, KY; Albert Hire, of the Oak Dale section; Leo Hire of Long Creek; two daughters, Mrs. Nellie Perdue, also of Long Creek, and Mrs. Elsie Jenkins of Indianapolis; a large number of grandchildren, several great great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Bevel of Franklin; and Mrs. Tallie Tire, also of Oak Dale; two ½ brothers, Willie White, of the Long Creek section; and Charlie White of near Lafayette; and an aged stepmother, Mrs. Kittie White, also of Lafayette.
Burial is to take place at 11 o’clock today (Thursday) in the Oak Dale Cemetery, with Rev. Ed Morris, of Bowling Green, in charge of the services. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill General Baptist Church, and was a good woman, loved and highly esteemed by all who knew her. She was the daughter of George White and a native of this county.
