FUQUA, Nancy – (d. 1946)

Mrs. Nancy Fuqua Dies After Lingering Illness

Mrs. Nancy Elizabeth Fuqua, aged 77 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Booker Curtis in Lafayette at six thirty o’clock Thursday morning of last week. She had been in feeble health for years and had been confined to her bed for many years from a complication of troubles. She was a widow of John Fuqua, who died 15 years ago. She leaves two sons, Oscar and Britt Fuqua, both of Lafayette; three daughters, Mrs. Nelia Reid, of Springfield; Mrs. H.B. Law, of Scottsville; and Mrs. Curtis; 17 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Clark Day, of the Alton Hill section of this county; and a half brother, Bill Parker of Hartsville.

The remains were laid to rest Friday afternoon about two o’clock in Drury’s cemetery, following funeral services conducted by Elder N. C. Fuqua and Elder A.J. Sloan. She was a good woman and had been a member of New Harmony Baptist church for more than 60 years. She was a Miss Shrum prior to her marriage, being the daughter of King and Mary Carter Shrum, both of whom died a number of years ago. She was born and reared in the Carter Branch section of the county.

DOZIEE, Flossie Fuqua – (d. 1955)

Mrs. Flossie Fuqua Dozier, aged nearly 48 years, died suddenly at her home in Lafayette about one o’clock Monday afternoon. She suffered a heart attack nearly three months ago and spent some time in the local hospital. She had been apparently doing nicely until a short time before the end came unexpectedly on Monday. Her husband, who is a young Baptist minister and also a merchant at Brattontown, was away from home on business when Mrs. Dozier passed away. She leaves, in addition to her husband, two sons, Otis and Jack T. Dozier, residing in their father’s home; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Faye Able, who resides with her soldier husband stationed at present in Alaska; Mrs. Della Mae Jenkins, of Lafayette; and Mrs. Wanda Lee Stinson of Haysville this county; three grandchildren, three brothers, Fred Fuqua, of Detroit; Otto Fuqua, of Indianapolis; and Carney Fuqua, of Tompkinsville, Ky., and one sister, Mrs. Rosa Edens, of Lafayette.

Funeral services were conducted at Brattontown Baptist church at 11 o’clock Wednesday morning by Elders N.C. Fuqua and M.R. Drury, followed with interment in Drury cemetery. The deceased was a good woman and was an excellent member of Brattontown Baptist church. She was a native of Robertson county but had lived most of her life near Lafayette. She was the daughter of the late Rickman and Samantha Reid Fuqua.

DAY, William Clark – (d. 1949)

Clark Day Dies at Home Near Lafayette

William Clark Day, aged nearly 72 years, died at his home about four miles west of Lafayette on Sunday afternoon. He suffered a heart attack early this year, but was thought to be progressing nicely when a sudden attack of illness developed early Sunday afternoon, ending his life shortly afterward. It is supposed that heart disease was the cause of his death. His wife, Mrs. Lethia Susie Shrum Day, died two years ago. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Freeley Caruthers, of Allen County, Kentucky; Mrs. Adron Carr, of this county; and Mrs. Huel Wheeley, who resided with her father; eight grandchildren, four brothers, Jim Day, of New Harmony; Frank Day, of Westmoreland; and John Day, of Nashville; and a sister, Mrs. Alva Norman, also of near Lafayette.

The remains were laid to rest at a late hour Monday in the Drury Cemetery, following funeral services conducted by Elder William Norman, assisted by Elder Calvin Gregory. The deceased was a hard working farmer and was a native of the New Harmony section. He was a member of the Cedar Bluff Baptist church, and was one of the highly respected citizens of this community. He was the son of Sam and Lizzie Warner Day.

BRAWNER, Melvina – (d. 1936)

A stomach ailment claimed the life of Mrs. Melvina Brawner at her home in Franklin, KY, on Thursday afternoon of last week. She was 53 years of age and was for many years a resident of the Beech Bottom community, being the widow of the late Tom V. Brawner. She is survived by two sons, Radford Brawner, also of Franklin; and Bethel Brawner of Beech Bottom; and four daughter, Mrs. Mittie Coker, and Mrs. Lillie Gann, both of near Lafayette; Mrs. Janie Gregory of Pleasant Shade, and Mrs. Nola Tinsley, with whom the deceased made her home.

Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon by Elder Calvin Gregory, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Nelse McDonald cemetery. Mrs. Brawner was a Miss Garrett prior to her marriage. She was a devoted member of Beech Bottom Baptist church for many years.

BRAWNER, Margaret – (d. 1948)

Mrs. Mag Brawner is Heart Attack Victim

Mrs. Margaret Brawner, known to most of her acquaintances as Mrs. Mag Brawner, died unexpectedly at her home in the Spring Creek section of the county on Friday morning, passing away suddenly about nine thirty o’clock. Death was attributed to a heart attack. She had been in poor health for months from a heart disorder. She was the widow of the late Pate Brawner, who died about 17 months ago. She leaves three sons, Jesse Brawner, local businessman; Earl Brawner, of Maple Grove; and Raymond Brawner, residing with his mother; five daughters, Mrs. C.H. Dillard, of Lafayette, Mrs. Burrell Marsh of Maple Grove; Mrs. Bedford Hutcherson, of Indianapolis; Mrs. Bert Bandy, of Hartsville; and Mrs. G.A. Gregory, of Nashville; 27 grandchildren , 12 great grandchildren, one brother, James Cox of Williams; one sister, Miss Loe Cox, of Red Boiling Springs; a half-brother, Willie Cox of Williams; and two half sisters, Mrs Ida Dillard and Mrs. Ada Dallas, both also of Williams.

The remains were laid to rest on Saturday afternoon at three o’clock, following funeral services conducted by Elder P.H. Brooks, pastor of Spring Creek Baptist Church, of which the deceased had been a member for a number of years. She was held in high esteem by all who knew her, Mrs. Brawner was the daughter of Pate and Adeline Dixon Cox, and was a native of the Dry Fork section of the county.
