Myles, Joseph Samuel
Joseph Samuel Earl Myles “aka” Big Sir, Son of Thunder, Poppa Bear, daddy, and granddad was born on June 16, 1941 in Robertson County, TN to the late Albert & Pauline Johnson Myles. He departed his earthly life on October 8, 2020 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, TN.
Joseph was educated in the Robertson County School System and graduated from Bransford High School. While attending Bransford he played football and bragged that they had the best Marching Band. After high school, he enjoyed drag racing, working on cars, polishing shoes, boning beef, truck driving, singing and above all he loved preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
On November 5, 1962 he married his high school sweetheart, Audrey Mai Yates and to this union four beautiful daughters were born: Lisa Ann, Marchelle, Nita Jo and Willie Mai. Audrey passed away in 1978 leaving him to raise these four girls.
Joseph was called to the ministry in 1978 and he pastored at the Woodbine Church of God and Centerville Church of God from 1978 to the present. Elder Myles was a lover of people and he never met a stranger. He always wanted to make sure that people were well fed when they were in his presence and he didn’t like shaking the spoon. In addition to preaching he enjoyed writing his own songs.
In 1979 while looking for a piano player he met & married his second wife Edwinter Lann Wright. To this union two children were born Ryan & Aaliyah.
Elder Myles is preceded in death by his parents, Albert & Pauline Myles, 1st Wife, Audrey Mae, brother, Charles, sister, Verreal and daughter, Marchelle.
He leaves to cherish his memory wife, Edwinter Myles, daughters, Lisa (Ernie) Mastin, Benita Thompson, Willie Mae Myles, and Aaliyah Myles, son, Ryan (Amanda) Myles; sisters, Stella Jean Neal and Janice Miles Jones (John); 2 Sisters-In-Law, Veronica Wilson, Rebecca (Greg) Thomas; 4 Brothers-In-Law, Garland (Cheryl) & Barry (Bonita) Walker, Dr. Oscar (Helen) Underwood, Jr., Lorenzo Hawkins; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren. He also leaves a host of “Godchildren” from Centerville and Springfield as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends and a special sister, Rozella Dansby and friend, Barbara Dobbins.
Visitation will be October 14, 2020 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Church of God, 404 Dorris Ave, Springfield, TN. The funeral will be October 15, 2020 at 1:00 PM at River Front Park, 142 N Central Ave, Centerville, TN.
