Wills Missing from 1937 WPA Typescript
Jere Cox noted the following wills were missing from the 1937 typescript he transcribed. He wrote, “Page numbers in this index refer to those of the original volume from which this copy is made. I am missing a few pages of the typed WPA will book, namely, pages 35 and 187.”
The information presented on the Carroll County TNGenWeb site was transcribed from pages that were typed up about 1935 from hand-written pages.
Blair, William (1856) — indicates “researcher submitted,” but it is not available on Jere’s original transcription. An 1848 will of William Blair was transcribed by Jere Cox.
Baucom, Bennett — page 35
Hamilton, Calvin — page 399
Smothers, Green B. — page 200 [Jere Cox noted “Page 200 would be right in the middle of the will of Thomas Hawkins. I have no will for Smothers.”]
Stone, Vziah — page 92
White, A. — page 421 [Jere Cox noted “See will on pg 446 (White, Abraham, page 446)”]
This text was transcribed by Jere Cox from the typescript entitled Tennessee Records of Carroll County Will Book “A” September, 1822 – 1864 (approximately) created in 1937 under the Works Progress Administration.
Corresponding Resource: FamilySearch has a microfilm copy of the WPA transcript of Will Book A available to view on-line (click here). A free FamilySearch login is required to view microfilm.
Jere Cox was an early Carroll County TNGenWeb coordinator. We do not intend to violate Jere’s copyright interests by including the transcription here, but we want to make sure his efforts remain available for future researchers.
