TAYLOR, James Patton, farmer; born in Carter Co., Tenn., Dec. 22, 1844; English, Scotch-Irish and German descent; son of Nathaniel Greene and Emaline (Haynes) TAYLOR; father’s occupation, farmer, minister of the gospel, politician and statesman; educated at Boone’s Creek, (Tenn.) Academy, Pennington Seminary (N. J.) and Edgefield High School, Princeton, N. J.; most of his life has been devoted to agricultural interests; married twice, first, Mary GEORGE, Dec. 28, 1865, second Cora SHEWALTER, Oc. 18, 1894; Democrat; former Adj.-Gen. Tenn. and private secretary to his brother, Gov. R. L. TAYLOR, also Assistant Examiner in Patent Office, Washington, D. C., under President Johnson; member of the Southern Methodist church; P. O. address Embreeville, Tenn., R. F. D. No. 1.
