SPENCER, Herbert W., insurance and real estate; born Chattanooga, Tenn., Dec. 21, 1880; son Henry H. and Emily (Ashworth) SPENCER; English descent; educated Chattanooga Public Schools, Mountain City Bus. College; married Ada Helen RICHARDSON Oct. 20, 1903; member Chattanooga Lodge 199, F. & A. M., and Y. M. C. A.; in 1893 worked as a telegraph clerk in Western Union Tel. Co.; became operator and remained in that position until 1903, when he entered the employ of T. C. Thompson, mgr., as cashier; Jan. 1, 1911, formed fire insurance partnership with Frank H. DOWLER, Jr., and Thomas C. THOMPSON, Jr., under firm name Spencer, Dowler & Thompson with offices No. 712 National Bank Bldg, Chattanooga; member Second Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga.
