PENICK, Isaac Newton, minister of the gospel, editor; born in Carroll Co., Tenn., Oct. 9, 1859; French-English descent; son of Elijah Warren and Mary Jane (Rowland) PENICK; father’s occupation, farmer; paternal grandparents Henry and Mattie (McGehee) PENICK; maternal grandparents Thomas and Bettie (Green) ROWLAND; educated in public schools of Tennessee., University of Tennessee, and Southwestern Baptist University; received D. D. degree from Hall-Moody Institute in June, 1907; began teaching in early life and taught twelve years; in University of Tennessee, 1879-1880; married Benie SHANKLE, Nov. 6, 1881; member I. O. O. F., and Golden Cross; Democrat; served as justice of the peace in Carroll Co., Tenn., 1884-1885 entered the ministry in 1890, moved to Martin, Tenn., in 1895 has served the following pastorates: Buena Vista, Holladay, Chesterfield, Darden, Lavenia, First Church, Jackson, Tenn., and Martin, Tenn.; editor of “The Baptist Builder;” president board of trustees Hall-Moody Institute; member of the State Mission Board, and of the State Baptist Educational Commission; member of Baptist church.
