REPASS, Joseph Wharton, educator; born Bland Co., Va., Nov. 8, 1861; son of Joseph and Eliza Jane REPASS; graduated from Hiwassee College, Tenn., A. B., 1884, A. M., 1887; married Sadie A. BARBEE in 1884; Democrat; member of Methodist Church; began teaching in Public Schools of Scott Co., Va., in 1879; Principal of Greenwood, (Va.) High School, 1884-8, Holston Institute Tenn., 1888-91; Zollicoffer Institute, Tenn., 1891-93; founded Russell College, Va., 1893, and president of same 1893-97; Prof. of Natural Sciences Martha Washington College, Abingdon, Va., 1897-1902; Principal Woodson Institute, Richmond, Md., 1902-04; President Clarksville (Tenn.) Female Academy, 1904-05; Centenary Female College, Cleveland, Tenn., 1905-1910; Logan Female College, Russedville, Ky., 1910.
