HARWOOD, Thomas Everett, lawyer; born Trenton, Tenn., Aug. 5, 1852; son of R. D. and Mary (Everett) HARWOOD; father’s occupation, in early life a printer, later a merchant and then for many years a farmer; paternal grandparents William and Sarah Ann (Grizzard) HARWOOD, maternal grandfather Thomas H. EVERETT, maternal grandmother, Elizabeth (Buchanan) EVERETT, was a daughter of John BUCHANAN, known in Tennessee as commander of Buchanan’s Fort; educated at Andrew College, Trenton, Tenn., Franklin (Tenn.) College, University of Tenn., and Cumberland University Law School, graduating from the latter with LLB. Degree, 1874; taught school in early life, and later entered practice of law, in which he is still engaged; author of inheritance tax law in Tennessee; Democrat; state senator from Gibson and Crockett Cos., Tenn., 1893, and trustee of University of Tenn. about eight years; at present he is Judge of the 13th Judicial Circuit of Tenn.; married Jennie HEWETT, 1882; member of D. K. E. fraternity, Knights of Honor, Knights of Pythias, State and American Bar Associations; member of Missionary Baptist church.
