DINWIDDIE, Madison Bagby, farmer; born Old Caledonia, Henry Co., Tenn., Feb. 24, 1840; Scotch-Irish descent; son of Jedida and Mary (Anderson) DINWIDDIE; father was a farmer and slave owner; paternal grandfather William DINWIDDIE, maternal grandmother was a Miss MAUPIN prior to her marriage, maternal grandparents Nelson and Peggie (Smoot) ANDERSON; volunteered and enlisted in Civil war, May 20, 1861, as 1st Lieut. Hawkins’ Co., Russel’s Brigade, and Forrest’s Division Cavalry; engaged in sixteen battles, wounded three times, last time he was severely wounded and was discharged July 22, 1864; married Mary E. PATTERSON, Dec. 8, 1864; member Masonic Fraternity and Confederate Bivouacs; Vice Pres. Stonewall Jackson Bivouac No. 42; Democrat (Regular); interested in farming, milling and cotton gin interests, cattle and stock raising, etc.; member of Cumberland Presbyterian church.
