Friday, December 22, 1905 Most of the front page of this newspaper is blacked out and not readable. Hinkledale Hunks On last Sunday morning, Mr. Guy WALKER and Miss Flora Bell JACKSON were married. Mr. John ADAMS is just hitting the roads in high places over the arrival of a fine boy. On Saturday, Dec. 9, Mr. John EZZELL and his brother in law, Mr. Virgel BRITTEN, got into a little scrape. Mr. EZZELL became frightened, drawing an axe on Virgel, and Virgel was excited: having his knife in his hand he gave Mr. EZZELL an ugly gash across his face. Western Side of No.15 Column Little Jack CANTRELL is on the sick list. Prof. J. M. GALEY has been suffering very much for the last few days with neuralgia. Mr. Willie MAYNARD and family, of Missouri, are visiting relatives in this vicinity. Mr. MAYNARD is talking of moving back to old Tennessee to live. Mr. George HORNBUCKLE and family moved into our midst last week. Hall’s Branch Budget Column Ernest SMITH remains sick. Will LAMB, Jr. sold a nice drove of hogs to Messrs. Gus ATKINS and Bob JOHNSON recently for $4.15 per hundred and delivered same at Gleason Saturday Mr. W. D. JANES is now so stiffened with rheumatism that he cannot walk without assistance. It is hinted that Mr. John G. TODD will enter the grocery business on the “chicken” road between West Union and Hall’s Branch. Mr. Geo. SWAIM, of Gleason, is building an addition to the dwelling occupied by Arthur TODD, over in Green Briar, on Gleason and Janes’ mill road. Mr. TODD has rented the farm for 1906. Brother Henry VANCLEVE, West Union’s wide awake groceryman and excellent church worker, will at an early date, sell out his business at this place he will embark in the same business under more favorable circumstances. Uncle Joe PRINCE, who sold his farm here to L. D. OLIVE, moved to Rock Hill vicinity, near Sharon, last week. Mr. OLIVER immediately moved in. It is with much regret that we gave up Mr. Clint HEARN and family, who moved from here to Blooming Grove vicinity last week. At the same time, we welcome Mr. Marshall BASS and family, who have moved to the place they bought from Mr. HEARN. Mr. Geo. ATKINS, our future register, backed out of his recent land deal with Harmon DEASON over to Green Briar. Mr. W. H. LAMB, who sold his farm here to Mr. Hoss MALONE, moved to the Tom DENNING farm, in East Grove vicinity. Mr. LAMB, his son Willie, and son in law, Azzie SMITH, bought this farm awhile back and will all occupy the same dwelling. Mr. SMITH and family will move in Friday. Death entered the home of Mr. Green TODD, residing on the Gleason road just south of Janes Mill, Sunday and took from him his beloved companion. A congestive chill was the cause of death. Mrs. TODD was well enough on Saturday to cut out and prepare some sewing and her death was unexpected as it was sudden. The good woman leaves a sorrowing husband, five boys and three girls, part of them married, a sister and a host of other relatives and friends to more his demise. Interment took place at New Hope cemetery in No. 6, Monday. Many sorrowing relatives and friends were present to pay their last respects to that sainted mother, who, we doubt not is now with Jesus in a brighter, better world. McKenzie R. F. D. No. 4 Column F. R. YOUNG attended the Bob TAYLOR speaking at Paris last Wednesday, he reports a large crowd and an eloquent speech. Bob STAFFORD is now a citizen of Christmasville; he moved to Prof. A. C. ELINOR’s place. Our popular merchants, Ross & Aden are enjoying a splendid trade this all and winter. Town and County Column Sid HARRIS captures the blue ribbon for the largest hog killed. He killed a porker the other day that weighed 444 pounds. A $10,000 brick hotel is talked of at Sharon, to be built on the same site as the one that burned last week. News reached this county last week of the death at Ft. Myers, Fla., of Will HUNT, who was born and reared at Sharon and a brother to Mrs. E. E. ATKINS of Dukedom. Mr. HUNT was about thirty five years of age and is survived by a wife and one child. His death was due to fever. His wife was a Miss ALLEN, of McKenzie, and they had been married but two years. On last Sunday afternoon, Esq. Bob IRVINE, united in the holy bonds of wedlock Mr. Geo. GIBBS, a highly respected young farmer of No. 20 and Miss Claud PARHAM the sweet and beautiful daughter of Mr. W. W. PARHAM, who recently purchased and moved a farm on No. 7. Mr. D. WEBB and Miss Vaughan, prominent young people of No. 13, were married last Sunday by Esq. Almus GOLDEN at his home. Mr. Charley KILLGORE has been on crutches most of the time for the past two weeks, the result of his horse turning the buggy over with him and throwing Mr. KILLGORE to the ground, demolishing his vehicle and spraining his ankle. Sam, the 21 year old son of Mr. George HORNSBY, who resides about six miles north of Dresden in No. 25, died on last Monday at 12 o’clock of congestion of the stomach. He was the only son of Mr. George HORNSBY and his sad death is a blow to the doting parents. Sam was an exemplary young man, and bore an excellent reputation in his neighborhood. We were incorrect in stating that Mr. L. D. DODDS lost all the contents of the hotel in Sharon in the Sharon fire. Later information is to the effect that Mr. DODD saved all the contents of the hotel and as he carried $1,000 insurance, he is not a heavy loser. Mr. Thomas ADKINS writes us that he denies that he has agreed not to prosecute the case against Booker ADKINS. On last Wednesday, Esq. R. N. IRVINE united in marriage here in Dresden Mr. O. JOHNSON and Miss Maggie MARTIN. Mr. Walter ADAMS says that we were in error last week is saying that he was fined for disturbing public worship. This young man was not indicted on this charge and we cheerfully make the correction. Married, Saturday, Dec. 16, while seated in their buggy near Esquire HOUSE’s residence, were Miss Hattie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Len H. WELDON, to Mr. Drew MITCHERSON. These young people belong to popular families in Weakley County. Mr. John R. THOMASON was in a runaway accident last Tuesday that came very near proving serious. A surprise wedding occurred at Greenfield this week. Miss Ola ROSE is there visiting and she and Mr. Homer BERRY, one of Greenfield’s most highly respected young men, were united in marriage by Brother MOORE. The bride’s home is in Kentucky. We congratulate Mr. John C. HART on securing an appointment as postmaster at Palmersville. A young man named Norman, employed in the express office at Martin, dropped a pistol from his pocket at the express office, shooting him in the leg and inflicted a very painful wound. Mr. Henry SAWYERS and Miss STOFLE, prominent young people of No. 23, were united in marriage on last Sunday at the home of Elder R. B. CREWS. From Lunet Column Several from here are remodeling their residences, they are Mr. Jim CLEMENT, Mr. J. M. FAIR, Mr. F. M. RONEY. Cecil WEBB is visiting his parents for Christmas, he is in school in Nashville. Notes New and Old From No. 1 Column Mr. Ed FRIELDS has sold his farm to Mr. Harvey ABERNATHY for $600. Mr. George STEPHENSON, of Elm Tree, has moved his family into the Will WILLIAMS house. Mr. Sidney ROBERTS is recovering from la grippe. Mr. Charlie RAY has moved out of this district late in No. 18, near Dukedom. Mr. Ora STUNSTON purchased two fine mules from Mr. Philip FORESTER, paying $230 for them. Mr. J. V. AUSTIN is building a nice tenent house to be occupied by Mr. Elbert MORRIS. Mr. George AUSTIN had a cistern dug last week. Mr. R. T. BYNUM has purchased the farm belonging to Mr. J. T. SMOOT for $1,400. Mr. J. M. RHOADES, while at work on the new Methodist church, fell and received very painful injuries and was suffering very much. News From No. 4 Column Mr. Joshua WILKERSON moved to his new home near Latham this week. Mr. Bill HALL has moved to the Haynes place Also Mr. William MORGAN has left these parts and moved to the Haws farm, on the Dresden road. Mrs. Minnie BUNDIGE, who has been confined to her bed about seven weeks, is still no better. The little child of Mr. Buck REED is quite ill at this writing. The little child of Mr. and Mrs. Will BERCHAM which was so burned last week, is improving. Aunt Louisinda PRICE is on the sick list. North Part of No. 2 Column Mr. Jessie RYAN is moving to his new house. Mr. PARKER and Miss Maude MULLNIX will suspend the school here for Christmas. Corinth and New Salem Column Mr. Eaton DAVIS and Miss Mollie MOON were united in marriage last Sunday with Esq. B. W. BRUCE officiated. Mr. J. C. MARTIN’s little son and others were playing last Tuesday and in some way the little boy fell and broke his collarbone. Mr. Robert MARTIN, Jr. will leave for Oklahoma Territory at an early date to make his home. On last Tuesday, Mr. W. L. ROBERETS loaded his pipe and all in a moment the pipe exploded, throwing pipe and ashes to the four winds. Mr. ROBERTS began to investigate the explosion and found he had loaded it with a twenty two cartridge. Clara, the baby girl of Mr. and Mrs. FONVILLE, went to her reward on Dec. 13. Clara was sick eight weeks with fever. The body was carried to the C. P. church and there the Rev I. N. PENICK, of Martin, conducted the funeral services. The body was then conveyed to the Sharon cemetery and there laid to rest to await the resurrection. Up to Date Doings Column Mr. Orpha TAYLOR sold a pair of mules to a gentleman named CALLAHAN from Fulton vicinity, for $295. Mr. and Mrs. Dee HELMS are the proud parents of a fine girl, which arrived last week. Christmasville Capers Column Mrs. Emerline BOMAR has been very sick for the past few days, but is reported some better. J. J. BOAZ killed a hog a little over one year old a few days ago which weighed 385 pounds. Quite a romantic wedding occurred at Esq. C. H. ROSS’s last Sunday afternoon, which resulted in the marriage of Mr. Sam BAKER and Miss Callie POPE. The groom, finding that he could not easily overcome parental objection, decided that all was fair in love and war and securing the promises of his fair bride to meet him at a neighbor’s house, they soon drove rapidly and had the knot tied. Adam’s Academy Column Mr. Herbert MORGAN and Miss Lena ADAMS drove to Brother DAVIS’ last Sunday afternoon and were united in the holy bonds of matrimony. Mr. and Mrs. Will ADAMS are the parents of a fine boy, which arrived Dec. 7. Mrs. Lilla ADAMS is on the sick list. Mr. Jimmie TEMPLETON’s baby is said to have pneumonia. Mr. Fate MOORE and family moved to Sharon last Thursday. Mr. John MORGAN and family have moved near Gardner. Mr. John Willie ADAMS and Mr. Fielden TRAVIS are having work done on their houses.
