Robert Payne was born 11 May 1783 and died abt. 1856 in Sumner Co. TN. Married 17 December 1811 in Sumner Co. TN to Sarah C. BEARD. Sarah C. Beard (daughter of Capt. David BEARD and Isabel CARSON) was born born 25 February 1792 Sumner Co. TN, died abt 1861. Robert and Sarah were members of the Dry Fork Cumberland Presbyterian Church until August 1844 when Robert "applied and obtained letters of dismission and recommendation" for himself and his wife and some of his children. Robert's will was written 9 May 1854 and proved in March 1857 in Sumner Co. TN.

Update! With the help of DNA testing and my cousins Chase Boetsch and Jerry Wilson, we have finally discovered the parents of Robert Payne. This is a major breakthrough for me. After searching for almost 20 years, finally progress!

Robert Payne is the son of Josiah Payne and Mary. He is the grandson of John Payne and Mildred "Milly" Greenwood.

James C. "Jim" Payne (son of Robert Payne and Sarah Beard) was born 18 August 1831 Sumner Co. TN, died 1872/1880 in Marion Co. IL. Married 21 September 1854 in Sumner Co. TN to Mary A. E. HARPER (daughter of Stephen HARPER and Mary Catherine "Nancy" WHITE). Mary was born 17 September 1835 and died 2 September 1896 Marion Co. IL. Mary Harper is buried next to her sister Louisa GOOSTREE in the Bell Cemetery, Iuka, Marion Co. IL.
