TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY CEMETERY RELOCATION AT THE SOUTH HOLSTON RESERVOIR
The Tennessee Valley Authority started the relocation of graves from different cemeteries in the Holston Valley in the 1930s . The graves had to be removed as the filling of the reservoir would flood or isolate many of these cemeteries. Many graves were left where they were, and that area was flooded. The project was put on hold in 1942 and resumed in 1947.
Twenty cemeteries were used for the re-interment of the bodies removed from cemeteries affected by the filling of the Holston Reservoir.
