Additional information
George Welch married Sarah Shipley (11 Dec 1849 – 22 Aug 1933). She is buried at the Emory Methodist Church Cemetery. She was the daughter of Benjamin Shipley, Jr. and Edna Mauk Shipley.
I have the deed to this cemetery. It was written by Benjamin Shipley and Edna Shipley the 30th day of March 1900. The deed was made to the public and N.B. Welsh S.M. Isely and A.B.Moody. Even though it is the actual deed, it was not recorded until December 9 1952 by my grandfather A. L. Isley. My father was Samuel Isley, and my maiden name was Judy Isley. It was noted in Note book 15 page 234 Deed book 137A page 469 in Sullivan County . Ruth Warrick Register. The deed was given to my father, and my father passed it on to me. I was supposed to pass it to my eldest child. But I feel it should be known by someone else.
Mrs. Wells,
My great-great grandmother was Eliza Ann Shipley from my father’s side as I live in Florida with my father Donald Bowery Henry who is now 82 years old I never got to see or visit any of my Shipley Family members are there any of the Shipley family members from Eliza Ann Shipley side that still live in and around Sullivan County, Tennessee that might have any pictures of her when she was young. I only have the one picture of her in the Davison Family Portrait that includes Andrew, Katy, Sarah Jane (my great grandmother),and some of the Davison brothers. I would also like to know if my great aunt Minnie Isley is related to you. She was I believe my fathers aunt by way of his mother Mamie Margaret Bowery Henry and her mother was Ethel Josephine Hawk Bowery Pitts and her father was Martin Luther Bowery. Thanks for any info you could give.
As far as I have read, there is at least one other Shipley cemetery in Sullivan Co. I’m trying to find a grave stone for Joshua Shipley, who was married to Mary Strickler. She is supposedly buried in the Mount Lebanon/Colonial Heights UMC Cemetery. Do you know if such a stone exists that shows Joshua’s birth & death info?
We are not aware of a stone. Mary Strickler Shipley is buried in Colonial Heights UMC Cemetery(aka Mt Lebanon). But there is no stone there with his name on it. These are also ancestors of mine as well. It is believed that he is buried in the Shipley Family cemetery at Warriors Path State Park. But there is no stone there either.
Thank you for the reply. 🙂
What was the name of the cemetery in Warrior’s Park that was originally located on top of the hill at the Frisbee Golf parking lot?
