Additional Information

There were several field stone markers and a few unmarked graves.  There are two stones, side by side, which simply read “Mom” and “Son.” As of September 2013, these two stones have been moved and replaced with a double marker for Anna B. Lyons Sams Malone (deceased) and her son Dallas Sams (living.)

Robert Perry of Bunker Hill community (son of Earl W. & Jean Perry; grandson of Earl & Nannie Scalf Perry; great-grandson of Isaac & Nannie Mae Glover Scalf) said that he has “heard all of his life” that upon entering Jones Cemetery, the unmarked graves on the front left side and other graves marked only by field stones are people who died “in the epidemic.” He assumed that was the 1918 influenza epidemic.

Also buried here in unmarked graves:

Jimmy Wayne Carver   Dec. 10, 1939 – March 10, 1941; died of spinal meningitis. Son of Otis Carver and Ruby Lyons Carver.

Billy Gene Carver   July 17, 1943 – Aug. or Sept. 1943; died in infancy. Son of Otis Carver and Ruby Lyons Carver.

Harry Scalf   born between 1927-1937 and died at birth; buried Jones Cemetery; grave was marked with a field stone. Son of Rudy McKinley & Alma Walker-Scalf, and grandson of Isaac & Nannie Mae Glover-Scalf.

The 1900 Census recorded that Nannie M. Scalf was the mother of 8 children with only 7 living, which leads me to believe that Howard B. Scalf, who is buried in Jones Cemetery, was the child who died of Isaac & Nannie Glover-Scalf.  John J. Scalf is buried beside Ruby Scalf in Jones Cemetery, so perhaps he is also a child of Ed Scalf, and grandson of Isaac & Nannie Scalf.  (SWR)
