Crussell Cemetery
Located in the field at the end of Rice Cross Road, on the Anderson farm property, near the Smith Cemetery on the banks of Boone Lake. The cemetery doesn’t appear to be the actual spot of the graves, as there were no sunken spots or vinca. The only tombstone found there was out of the ground, still attached to the base, within 75 ft. of the Smith-Cross Cemetery. In 1976 there was also a stone for N. T. Crussell (22 Apr 1860 – 14 Jul 1861). We searched the area 150 ft. in all directions, including the Smith Cemetery, but couldn’t find the stone.
Henry Martin Crussell’s death certificate states that he is buried in the New Hope Cemetery, Sullivan County and, indeed, he has a marker there, along with his wife, Sarah E. Crussell.
Photographed and transcribed 31 Mar 2008 by Jan Clark, Betty Jane Hylton Donna Briggs and Robert Shell, and again in June 2012 by Sharon Steele-Smith.
