A little Arrants history provided by Pat Hawkins & Pat Arrants
We do not know where their journey started but the indenture paper that says “Julian Arnst” and refers to her son of 3 or 4, “Johannes.” At this point of the paper, she had agreed to work an extra length of time (8 years) so that Johannes could be taken care of. We have never found where she was before this time — which was in 1723. Nor can we find her later. She was indentured to a Francis Mauldin. After the date of the indenture paper, where did she go?
After Johannes’ indenture time was completed, he was a very industrious man and became quite prosperous. The Maryland Society made better provisions than most of the other colonies for indentured servants upon fulfillment of the contracts. Customarily the servant was given a full suit of clothes, fifty acres of land, an ax, two hoes and three barrels of corn. For an enterprising person this was sufficient for him to establish himself as a farmer and enterprising person, and take his place in community affairs. Apparently Johannes used all of these conditions to his best advantage.
- Johannes first married Sarah PHILLIPS and they had 3 sons, Harmon, Nathan and William ARRANTS.
- Harmon ARRANTS and Francina Price had 7 children: Richard, Julia, Polly, Elizabeth, Sarah, Harmon, and Nathan.
- RICHARD married Sarah Ann McKINLEY and had 8 children: Hyram, Isaac, Julia Ann, John B., Elizabeth, Nancy Jane, Manda Malinda and Eliza ARRANTS.
- ELIZA married Solomon SMITH and they had 10 children: Josie, Julia, Sara, John Wright, Martha, Granville, Nancy Jane, James and Sammie SMITH. Eliza is buried with her husband Solomon in Poplar Ridge Cemetery.
- GRANVILLE married Sarah Catherine BARR and had 8 children: Ada, Fannie, Robert E., Flora, Montie, Harriet, Blanche and Errette Murphy SMITH.

I brought my mother, and my brother to this cemetary in September, 2017. Thank you so much for all of this information, as my mother is an Arrants, and has many of these people written in the original family Bible. We took many photos. 🙂
My name is John Edward Arrants 111 from Bristol Tennessee. I’ve often wondered if these people are related to me. Is their anyone I could talk to to find out?
