CARNEY, J. C., Dayton, Tenn., Jan. 13 – The funeral of J. C. Carney who died Wednesday morning at his home, nine miles above town, after an illness of six weeks, was held Thursday afternoon at the Clear Creek church, conducted by the Revs. Smith and Mathis. The Masonic lodge of Dayton conducted the burial services at Montgomery Cemetery, where the interment was made. Mr. Carney was 76 years of age. He had been a prominent resident of Rhea County for over fifty years. He was born in North Carolina. Mr. Carney was a member of the M. E. Church, South. He is survived by his wife and a large family of children. The pallbearers were: Mess‘s. Pat Wilkey, W.G, Taylor, W.L. Locke, J.H. Locke, W.C. Bailey, S.C. Stout, James S. Frazier and R.L. Godsey.
